Richard Sims Born Atlanta Georgia 1958 Attended Morningside Elementary Henry Grady High School Georgia State University Honorable Discharge United States Army In 1974 at 16 I went to work part time for Weldon Construction Company founded in 1955 by my uncle, Walter L Weldon. I kept this job while working my way through school. Upon my return from the the US Army I continued to work with Weldon Construction. Over the years I did the dirty jobs no one else wanted as there was no favoritism. Walter L. Weldon, firmly believed that you must have a solid foundation to build on, whether it was in construction or character. I learned all aspects of the construction industry during these times. I worked in all areas of construction and renovation from foundation repair, to structural integrity, electrical, plumbing, masonry, exteriors, roofing, heating, and air. In 1985 I preformed my first Home Inspection for Weldon Construction, once again I was under the tutelage of Walter L. Weldon. I quickly learned that knowing how to build it, did not prepare me on how to inspect it. Many homes and several months later, my apprenticeship was completed and I started inspecting homes solo. I eventually became President of Weldon Construction and was happy to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Weldon Construction in 2005. In 2002, I started Great City Inspections and in 2003 I incorporated and formed Great City Inspections Inc. In April of 2003, to test my knowledge, I took The American Home Inspectors Training Institute's "Master Course". I'm very proud to say that I had a perfect score upon completion. I did not realize until then, all of the valuable training and coaching I had over the years from Walter L. Weldon had taught me so well. Throughout my 31 years in the construction industry and my 20+ years of experience doing home inspections, I've encountered almost every issue with homes in Atlanta. I still continue to educate myself each year on the differences in the industry, as products and construction methods are constantly improving and installation techniques change. Over the years I have been associated with "ASHI" American Society of Home Inspectors and "NAHI" National Association of Home Inspectors. ASHI and NAHI are both great organizations and have helped establish a competence level among home inspectors. I ultimately choose my affiliation with "NACHI" National Association of Certified Home Inspectors. They have the largest membership base and the toughest entrance criteria of all creditable Home Inspector Associations. I'm also an Inspector for the "IAEI" International Association of Electrical Inspectors.
